How do I get one of your products ?

The fastest way to get any of our products is to go to the download section of this web page and download the latest version. These are full function versions with time limitations. When you purchase a full license, the time limitations are removed.

Is there one of those annoying dongles to unlock the software?

No, there is no dongle to deal with. Hopkins Computing uses a software key that is unique to each system.

What information is being provided when I register?

In addition to the information you enter, the registration program passes hardware information through one-way hash codes and sends these hash codes. The actual values from your computer are never sent. It is impossible to derive the original values from these hash codes.

The codes are used to verify that you have the rights to use the license. The license key will not work on a different computer but it will still work as long as there are not massive hardware changes made.

What happens when my hard drive crashes?

The license key is designed to continue to work even when a hard drive crashes. You would just need to install the software on the new hard drive and also copy the license key to the install directory. You should rerun the registration program and send the registration file after you have things running again. We will send you a new key that incorporates the new drive so that you are fully protected from future failures.

Which voice modem should I use?

The only modem that we have found that works well on each platform is the Zoom Faxmodem V.92 Model 3049L. This is an external modem that costs under $100.

We have found that the Creative ModemBlaster Serial External Model DE5621 works really well under Windows 2000. We have not tried it on any other operating system. The sound quality of this modem is excellent and may well become our favorite.

We are planning to evaluate new modems this summer and identify which ones work well with each operating system.

Why can't I use Windows NT 4.0?

When Microsoft created NT 4.0, they did not implement voice capabilities into TAPI (the Telephony API) because those functions were deemed to be consumer functions rather than office features.  Windows 2000 (NT 5.0) included voice features but Microsoft never made the functions backward compatible with NT 4.0.

If you are not using the voice functions, you could use NT 4.0 but we believe that you are better off upgrading to Windows 2000 or Windows XP. These operating systems are much more stable and better suited for the mission critical systems that utilize our products.

What if my control system is not on the list?

We designed our software to be modular and easy for us to add support for additional controllers and connection methods. These products have a planned schedule of additional features with space in that schedule for those features that we have not dreamed up yet. Please let our sales staff know what your needs are and we can let you know when your needs will be met.

Can I be a reseller?

Yes, we are currently developing a reseller program. Contact our sales team for more information.

Can I sell an OEM version?

Yes, we are interested in making you a private version that you can sell with your name on it. LABTECH Alert is an example of the packaging that is possible. Their version connects to other LABTECH products and features their name and logo throughout the package. Contact our sales team for more information.

Where can I get other Text to Speech voices?

There are lots of different voices available and can be found by doing a search for "SAPI 5.0 voices". They vary in quality and supported languages. Most of the web sites have a demo link so that you can hear their voices. Remember that a female voice will be easier to understand than a male voice.

Here are a few links to get you started:
